Friends took us in January 2009 for a a surprise reat and boy what a treat. The food and service was excellent and the views up the valley on such a lovely day were breathtaking and original. Plenty food variety and intersting and I will be back for certain on my next visit. It was nice to see that this local region protects its scenery and no sign of the "concrete" jungles of Las Americas and other built up areas. Well done Monesterio, keep up the standards and value.
The El Monasterio lies in a beautiful garden with flowers and animals an they have several restaurants within the old charming monastery. Both for larger parties, and more intimate dinners for two. They have both the white linnen tabelcloth kind, which makes you want to dress up a bit, and also more casual restaurants with charming rural interiors and open fires which give you the real fealing of escaping the beach and finding something special. The food is great whatever you decide (You must order the canarypotatoes), and they have an exelent winecellar (where you can arrange you ovn party). They even sell their one-meter-ovenbaked bread for you to take home, delicious! I highly recomand this place and assure you that they have a table for anyone young and old, family ore couple. You can even go for a walk in the hillside to a small chapel where the nunes used to search for inner peace and meditation....just to give you the right feeling ;)
