Tenerife General Information

Your comprehensive guide to Everything Tenerife

Ok, where to start? Tenerife is the largest of the eight inhabited Canary Islands (not seven as most people think; they forget La Graciosa).

This  group of volcanic rocks poking out of the Atlantic Ocean lies just over 100 miles from the northwest coast of Africa. Despite rubbing shoulders with the Dark Continent, the archipelago is a self-governed outpost of Spain.

Covering a land mass of 795 square miles, Tenerife is roughly the same size as the Lake District or The Cotswolds.

Tenerife is home to the highest peak in Spain’s territory, which also happens to be the world’s third largest volcano - Mount Teide at 3,718 metres. But don’t worry, it’s dormant. For now.
