Tenerife Practical Matters

Your comprehensive guide to Everything Tenerife

Language:
Spanish, but English is widely spoken in resort areas.

If you want to learn some Spanish, then why not check out The Spanish Course.

Currency:
Euro

Electricity:
220V AC, similar to the UK, but two-pin plugs are required for mains sockets so don’t forget to pack a UK-to-European adapter.

Dialling Codes:
+34 (national), 922 (Tenerife).

Drinking Water:
The tap water in Tenerife is drinkable but has been heavily treated, fine for accustomed stomachs, but buying bottled water is a safer bet for the visitor unless you’re happy to risk spending a fortnight on the throne. Feel free to use tap water for brushing teeth and washing etc.

Tipping:
Locals generally round the bill up. Most visitors feel more comfortable giving around 10% to waiters and taxi drivers. Either is acceptable.
